Em 2011, participamos do evento Red Bull Soapbox, sediado na cidade de Balneário Camboriú, com o "Sirizão", um veículo projetado para andar, literalmente, de lado!

We took part in 2011's regional Red Bull Soapbox event with the "Sirizão", a vehicle created to, literally, run sideways!

O plano inicial foi de construir um veículo com dimensões semelhantes às de um kart, dotado de um mecanismo de esterçamento nas quatro rodas, o qual imitasse o comportamento de um carro de drift, mas sem perder aderência. Envolvemos tudo tomando por tema o siri, animal que anda naturalmente de lado e é abundante na cidade de Florianópolis, origem da equipe.
A imagem acima apresenta o estudo de algumas posições desejadas para as rodas durante o esterçamento. À direita, a linha vermelha representa o comportamento ideal do centro de curvatura do veículo.

The original idea was to build a go-kart like vehicle that could replicate the behaviour of a drift car, without losing grip, by steering all four wheels. The "siri" (portuguese word for crab) was the chosen theme because it literally walks sideways and is abundant in Florianópolis, home town to the team. "Sirizão", in portuguese, means "big crab"
The above image represents the study of the desireable positions the wheels should reach while steering. To the right, the red line represents the desired path that the vehicle's turning center should follow.

O mecanismo final está ilustrado acima, pelas linhas verdes. Não tendo acesso à componentes principais de kart, especialmente rodas, optamos por peças de bicicleta. À direita, um esboço de uma vista superior do Sirizão com as novas dimensões.

Above, the green lines represent the final mechanism. Since we couldn't get go kart parts on time, specially the wheels, we changed the project to use bicicle parts. The sketch to the right represents a top view of the Sirizão with it's new dimensions.

As juntas esféricas e o banco, comprados no mercado, foram reproduzidos em CAD para o projeto dos demais componentes do mecanismo plano de direção.

The seat and the ball joints were acquired from third party suppliers and reproduced in CAD, so that the final components of the plain steering mechanism could be designed.

Um chassis simples foi construído respeitando as posições necessárias para o mecanismo. enquanto os componentes deste foram enviados para usinagem.

A simple chassis was built as the custom steering components were machined.

A carenagem foi construída em papelão, suportada por uma estrutura fina de aço.

The cardboard body was assembled over a thin steel structure.
